Booderee National Park - Carpark Reseal

Scope:

The project involved resealing and upgrading the Depot Carpark at Booderee National Park, Jervis Bay, NSW. The works form part of the Director of National Parks’ infrastructure upgrades program

Improvements made to the carpark:

• Addressed severe potholing and exposed sub-grade by resealing the carpark.
• Redesigned layout to reduce vehicle–vehicle and vehicle–pedestrian conflict.
• Improved access, movement and safety for heavy vehicles, plant and equipment.

Key Challenges:

• Ensuring continuity of park operations and compliance with environmental, cultural and safety obligations.
• Managing works in a live park environment through careful planning to maintain public and stakeholder access during works. The works were staged to avoid disruption to park operations and visitors.
• Installing barriers and signage to delineate the work site. High-risk works were scheduled outside peak park hours to ensure safe coordination of construction vehicles with ongoing depot and park traffic.
• Assessing variable subgrade conditions and redesigning to ensure a compliant pavement and a quality product for the user.
• Investigating and redesigning drainage to suit site conditions.
• Locating and potholing undocumented underground services prior to excavation. 
• Accommodating for shallow services and redesigning to ensure a compliant pavement.
