Scope:
The Eastern Border Outpost project, delivered by BY Group in partnership with Hatanga Ltd under the Solomon Islands–Australia Defence Cooperation Program, involves the refurbishment of key government facilities and the construction of new infrastructure in Lata, Temotu Province.
The scope includes:
- Refurbishment of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Station
- Refurbishment of the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO)
- Construction of a new office facility for the local police department
The project features a prefabricated building solution supplied by TCS in New Zealand, streamlining on-site construction and ensuring quality and efficiency in a remote environment.
Key Considerations:
Delivering complex infrastructure in one of the Solomon Islands’ most remote provinces required careful coordination, local engagement and innovative construction methods.
Key project highlights include:
- A project delivery team made up of more than 75% locally employed Temotu people, supported by ex-ADF personnel.
- A strong partnership between BY Group and Hatanga Ltd, combining Indigenous Australian and Solomon Islands expertise.
- Active collaboration with the Temotu Provincial Government and local community throughout all project stages.
- Implementation of BY Group’s ISO and FSC Certified Management Systems to maintain safety, quality, and environmental standards.
- A shared commitment to strengthening national security, community safety, and disaster preparedness across the Solomon Islands.
The successful completion of the refurbished Police Station and NDMO marks a significant milestone in enhancing local capability and resilience under the Defence Cooperation Program.
