Scope:
BY Group is proud to contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of AIATSIS, a national cultural institution dedicated to preserving and sharing the stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australia. This project highlights our commitment to supporting organisations that play a vital role in cultural preservation and resurgence.
The AIATSIS Roof Replacement Project includes:
- Replacement of roof sheeting across key building zones
- Heavy lifting and craning of 31-meter roof sheets using a 130T crane
- Careful scheduling of work to ensure safe and efficient operations in a high-profile site
- Ongoing coordination to minimise disruption to the functioning of the institute
Stage 1 – Zone 1 has been successfully completed, with early starts and extended workdays ensuring both safety and efficiency.
Key Considerations:
Delivering this project required meticulous planning, technical precision and adherence to strict safety standards. Key factors include:
- Working on a culturally significant national site, respecting both the heritage of the organisation and the broader First Nations community
- Maintaining a strong focus on safety while handling large-scale roofing materials and heavy lifting operations
- Engagement and reflection on cultural significance, exemplified through events such as NAIDOC Week celebrations on-site
- Supporting Indigenous employment and skills development through meaningful participation in the project
This project demonstrates BY Group’s commitment to combining technical expertise with cultural awareness, contributing to national institutions that support First Nations communities.
