Hume 6 - Earthworks & Piling | BY Group

Written by By Group | Oct 15, 2026, 1:35:13 AM

BY Group delivered a comprehensive civil and groundworks package for the Hume 6 project, covering site establishment, bulk earthworks, piling, ground beams, pile caps and detailed excavation.

Bulk Earthworks

BY Group delivered full site establishment including bulk earthworks, access roads and site infrastructure. Bulk earthworks involved stripping, stockpile management and cut-to-fill operations across the site. Through ongoing geotechnical assessment, the team optimised material reuse and efficiently managed over 4,800m³ of material, improving both cost and programme outcomes.

Piling Works

BY Group installed 253 bored piles ranging from 450mm to 1200mm in diameter, drilled to an average depth of 14.5 metres into competent shale. Approximately 3.7km of piling was completed using low-vibration methods to minimise disruption. A strong QA/QC program, including pile integrity testing, ensured compliance and performance while maintaining high production rates using multiple rigs.

Ground Beams & Pile Caps

The team constructed an integrated ground beam and pile cap system, placing over 570m³ of structural concrete. Works were delivered to tight tolerances (±10mm) to support accurate structural integration. BY Group also coordinated embedded services, including conduits, earthing systems and ducting, prior to concrete pours.

Detailed Excavation

Detailed excavation works included service and lift pits, pile cropping (approximately 250 piles) and final trimming for slab preparation. BY Group managed spoil efficiently, disposing of over 6,000m³ offsite and relocating more than 2,000m³, maintaining productivity and site efficiency.

Key Highlights:
  • Large-scale earthworks and deep foundation package for critical data centre infrastructure

  • Complex geotechnical conditions managed with adaptive strategies

  • High-volume piling and concrete works delivered under tight programme

  • Strong coordination with future services and structural interfaces

  • Efficient material management and reuse across the site
